Ascribe Bloggers

I love reading blogs that focus on writing. Especially the blogs produced by our local writers’ group. This is a shout-out to my fellow Ascribe Writers who consistently take turns providing a weekly blog that is shared on the website. Because membership in the group has been fairly consistent for many years, reading their posts is like catching up with good friends over coffee or a glass of wine.I always look forward to the Monday ritual of checking out the most recent post.

The Ascribe Writers are imaginative, candid and funny. They generously share their writing processes and experiences, including the frustrations and challenges. The blogs help create a familiar and comfortable forum to inspire and support each other. Writing can be a lonely, solo activity but there is no need to write in a vacuum. Connecting with a peer group (or several) can be a life-line to those who can relate to, and normalize, the ups and downs everyone experiences. As the saying goes, ‘Sorrow shared is halved. Joy shared is doubled.’. There have been many memorable successes celebrated as well over the years.

Whether you are working on a novel, short stories or screenwriting, in whatever genre, there are blogs available to educate and motivate. Maybe you are looking to increase creativity, build your technical expertise or dive into the business of publishing. If you explore, you are bound to find a few that work for you. Following favourite authors can also be very inspiring. Practising new habits will move you toward your writing goals.

This group has created a culture of community that has influenced me tremendously, including boosting my confidence. I appreciate the glimpses of their writing journeys and life vignettes that are shared through the blogs.

All the writers are wonderful wordsmiths and I admire that a lot. May they continue to excel at their craft.

Bernice Connell

Verging on retirement from paid work, Bernice is excited to be getting to the work and fun of writing. She's thrilled to be relocated in southern Ontario after 35 years in the northwestern part of the province. Being a writer of short stories is her goal.
