My Process, or My Mental Blog

I have to write my blog.
The deadline is looming; the time is nigh. Luckily, I am focused and organized, and ready to go. Mostly. I just have to do a few things first. Minor, quick things.

To being with, I must prep for what I call “my process”. My process consists of writing out the first draft of the blog in long hand. This allows for quick, spontaneous prose to flow out onto the page, enabling me to handily dash off that creative stream of thought that metamorphoses into wit and insight when it is transposed onto the computer.

I have a notebook especially designed for receiving such spontaneous literary creations. It has immaculate white sheets of paper. These sheets have clear straight lines that are prepared to hold my words to the page. There is a gel pen. To aid in the flowing of the aforementioned prose, so my thoughts can pour out without wasting time. It must be admitted that many of those lined pristine white sheets  end up as crumpled heaps around my writing table surface. That does cut into my time.

A writer needs clean air

Speaking of which, it occurs to me, as I sit here looking at my pristine white lined pages, as well as the crumpled up ones, and holding my handy gel pen, that it is time I replaced the filters in the furnace. Clearly if the filters are not changed, the air will be filled with dust mite casings and similar respiratory horrors that are sure to impede me as I begin penning my prolific prose. A writer needs clean air. This is a known thing.

I’m OK!

An hour later I am back here in triumph from Canadian Tire with not just furnace filters but a CO2 alarm and two smoke detectors! After an hour and a half, I can proudly claim responsibility for the installation of the new smoke detectors and CO2 alarm on the landing where the bedrooms are and down the hallway of the foyer. My left hand index finger, as well as my right hand thumb will be fine with the judicious applications of band-aids. I’m OK!

Now I can write that blog.

Yes. Right after I make dinner. And listen to the Juno Awards for a bit…..

Andrée loves the English language. And puns. It all began one dark and stormy night at the university student newspaper office: she went in to volunteer as a proof-reader, and ended up a book and theatrical reviewer. She has worn the hats of a poetry judge, editor, freelancer of non-fiction gigs, proof reader for an architectural salvage company blog, short story author, published poet and shameless enabler of pun smack downs. Last, but not least, Andrée enjoys meeting with her friends and fellow writers of Ascribe, where she gets information - and inspiration - on the arcane mysteries of writing short stories. She is working on a collection right now.
